The Blue Dream Schooner, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
The Blue Dream Project, an Italo-Canadian non-profit organization, works for the restoration of the oceans. It was established to preserve and to protect the marine environment from plastic pollution. The organization aims to encourage a more sustainable approach to life and more specifically, to promote the sustainable use of plastics, from production to disposal.
The Project’s first step is the construction of a wooden schooner according to the style and traditional methods of Nova Scotia, to preserve the ethical values laying in ancient artisanal skills such as the shipwright, sustainable fishing methods as it once used to be and ecological approaches to the environment.
This “new ambassador,” the result of the combined forces of donors and supporters around the world, will be made available to citizens, researchers and students for analysis and information campaigns about pollution of the sea and to raise public awareness on the health of our oceans. The schooner will be operational in the spring 2016, to monitor the density of plastic waste in the sea, providing information, data and proposals to protect the marine environment.
