Perseid Meteor Seen From Space (NASA, International Space Station, 8/13/11)

Editor's note: The 2011 Perseid meteor shower is winding down, but here's another view from space. While we look UP to enjoy the show, the astronauts aboard the International Space Station look DOWN to see these wonders. Perseids move at an average speed of 130,000 mph as they skid through the Earth's atmosphere.

A beautiful Perseid meteor, captured during the 2011 Perseid meteor shower. Seen by astronaut Ron Garan aboard the International Space Station.
