Columbian Mammoth Graveyard
During my 2001 sabbatical I was a member of an Earthwatch research team working at the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

26,000 years ago, a limestone cavern collapsed creating a deep hole that soon filled with warm spring water.

Over thousands of years, Columbian Mammoths, attracted to the vegetation and running water in the winter, fell into the sinkhole

So far over 50 Columbian Mammoths have bee uncovered at the site, all of them male.
