St Thomas More
"Give me, good Lord, a full faith, a firm hope, and a fervent charity, a love for thee, good Lord, incomparable above the love to myself, and that I love nothing to thy displeasure, but everything in order to thee"
– Prayer of St Thomas More while imprisioned in the Tower of London.
Today is the feast of St Thomas More (1478-1535), patron of politicians. He was a lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and noted Renaissance humanist, and rose to become Lord Chancellor of England. He was martyred under Henry VIII for refusing to sign the Oath of Supremacy which would have ceded authority and jurisdiction over the Church in England to the Sovereign.
This stained glass window is in the Catholic church in Harvington, next to the Hall which was home to many recusant Catholics.
