Inside a West Virginia Coal Mine...

The city of Beckley WV has done a wonderful job with their Coal Exhibition..featuring restored miner homes, the Superintendent's mansion, the old school house, and of course tours through a real coal mine. Went on it, and enjoyed it! This image was taken 1,500 feet below the surface...very wet, and much darker than what this image portrays...I used a very high ISO.. The leader of the tour was a retired coal miner who had worked in the mines for 40 years, including the last 11 in the mine at Montcoal, the scene of the tragic accident last year in which 29 miners were killed.
