this is a series of screenshots from a results page on www.linkedin.com. if you don't know linkedin - it's a well designed social networking site for professionals.
you can search linkedin using a simple keyword - like "baychi" or use a more advanced search. in this series of screenshots i'm focusing on the way they present the refine search tool on the results page.
rather than clutter up the page with a widget - which might detract from the answer to the user's question - the designer made the feature accessible from a refine search button at the top of the page. the feature is displayed with dhtml.
the designer also did a solid job of handling the no results case.
