The Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness Study Area is located in northern New Mexico about ten miles north of Chaco Canyon and 30 miles south-southwest of the Bisti Badlands. The area shares much of the geology and striking formations with the Bisti. There are numerous areas of hoodoos, much petrified wood, and some fossil bones scattered over an area of about 1.5 miles by .25 mile along the southern wall of the ah-shi-sle-pah wash.
