The bane of lily fanciers everywhere! Since its introduction from Europe in 1943, the Lily Leaf Beetle has steadily munched its way across the North American continent and has recently arrived in Western Canada where this one was photographed. Sadly, the defenseless native lilies have also come under attack.

The scarlet lily beetle, red lily beetle, or lily leaf beetle (Lilioceris lilii), is a leaf beetle that eats the leaves, stem, buds, and flower, of lilies, fritillaries and other members of the family Liliaceae. It is now a pest in most temperate climates where lilies are cultivated.

Leliehaantje

These colorful red beetles are known as Scarlet Lily Beetles ( Lilioceris lilii ). They are most destructive among lilies and can defoliate a whole plant in days.
Thank goodness I sprayed after this photo was taken, because we have several varieties of lilies in our gardens.
These Lilly Beetles are really pests they will eat up leaves stems and buds, I will try to give them cookies so they can stay away from my Lilies:-)
Taken 10 minutes ago on a gorgeous day.
I think it's kind of fun to see this aberration. And the little red ones are trying to figure out what's going on with the daisies.
