Aotearoa is the Maori name for the country of New Zealand. The literal translation of Aotearoa is "land of the long white cloud".

It seems the voyagers to New Zealand were guided during the day by a long white cloud and at night by a long bright cloud.

Land of the Long White Cloud

The long white cloud

There are many words for clouds, but the most common is kapua. Another word, ao, is used in the Māori name for New Zealand: Aotearoa – long white cloud. In one tradition Kuramārōtini, the wife of Polynesian explorer Kupe, named New Zealand after the cloud stretching over the land.

Thank you so much for your visit.

Aotearoa (often translated as "land of the long white cloud") is the current Māori name for New Zealand, and is also used in New Zealand English. It is unknown whether Māori had a name for the whole country before the arrival of Europeans, with Aotearoa originally referring to just the North Island

Stonehenge Aotearoa, is a practical, open-sky observatory inspired by and built on a similar scale to the famous Stonehenge in England. The henge is a modern adaptation, inspired by the many stone circles and henges scattered around the world.

Aotearoa means ao = cloud, tea = white and roa = long; aka Long White Cloud by the Maori (indigenous population of New Zealand) Hope you enjoy this shot as much as I enjoyed taking it! Cheers

Aotearoa, meaning Land of the Long White Cloud, is the Maori name for New Zealand. I thought it would be a good title for this photo of Lake Tekapo with the long white cloud above the mountains. Sorry I am posting a few photos of the lake but it's so beautiful I had to take pics from different parts of the lake, I promise not to post too many more but may have one more to come.

...aka New Zealand. Pic I took from my seat as we made our final approach to our new home.
