Seit Mitte Dezember habe ich einen Eichhörnchen Futterkasten im Garten. Vor ein paar Tagen bemerkte ich leere Haselnüsse auf dem Boden. Alle Haselnüsse waren aus dem Futterkasten verschwunden. Ich habe nun immer wieder den Futterkasten im Baum beobachtet, aber nicht entdeckt wer die Haselnüsse aus dem Kasten holt.

Heute Vormittag schaute ich durch Zufall aus dem Fenster und sah etwas braunes in den Zweigen. Schnell holte ich die Kamera und wirklich es war das Eichhörnchen auf das ich seit dem Herbst gewartet habe. Ich war so aufgeregt, dass ich die Kamera nicht ruhig halten konnte. Einige Fotos sind mir dann doch gelungen. Leider aber nur durch das Fenster. Das Eichhörnchen war sehr schnell und flitzte durch meine Bäume im Garten.

Ich hoffe ich kann es nun öfter beobachten und auch einmal im Freien fotografieren. Vielleicht gewöhnt es sich ja an mich. Jedenfalls freue ich mich, dass sich mein Futterkasten gelohnt hat und das Eichhörnchen in meinen Garten kommt.

How to make a playscale (Barbie/Blythe) cabinet from a food box:

1. Insert corrugated cardboard pieces into box to stabilize and support it. Glue to interior edges.

2. Tape ends closed tightly.

3. Attach cereal box trim/doors using Sobo glue. Cut with an XActo knife and straight edge. Measure. Be as precise as possible. I added balsa wood strips as feet at this point.

4. Paint entire thing with gesso to stiffen cardboard and create uniform base coat. Let dry. Lightly sand. You can apply a second coat if you want to make it even more firm.

I've fought off a gazillion mosquitoes to rescue this baby that's far to young to fledge. I built a nest from a cat food box. I fought off the vines and tree branches. Now if Mr. C doesn't just keep nagging about me chasing down the baby that was on the ground he can take over from here. No mother in sight and he's not doing a great job either since the other baby is also out of the nest but hanging on to branches. At least they're both off the ground and in the same group of trees.

Hard to believe that if it makes it this bird will be so beautiful. Not even a hint of the beauty of the cardinal.
