The Wazir Khan Mosque (Punjabi and Urdu: مسجد وزیر خان ‎; Masjid Wazīr Khān) is 17th century mosque located in the city of Lahore, capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab. The mosque was commissioned during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as part of an ensemble of buildings that also included the nearby Shahi Hammam baths. Construction of Wazir Khan Mosque began in 1634 C.E., and was completed in 1641. It is on the UNSCO World Heritage Tentative List.

Considered to be the most ornately decorated Mughal-era mosque, Wazir Khan Mosque is renowned for its intricate faience tile work known as kashi-kari, as well as its interior surfaces that are almost entirely embellished with elaborate Mughal-era frescoes.

he mosque was commissioned by the chief physician to the Mughal Court, Hakeem Ilam-ud-din Ansari, who was widely known as Wazir Khan. Wazir Khan later became the subedar, or Viceroy of Punjab, and commissioned several monuments in Lahore. Wazir Khan owned substantial amounts of property near the Delhi Gate, and commissioned the Wazir Khan mosque in 1634 in order to enclose the tomb of Miran Badshah, an esteemed Sufi saint whose tomb now lies in the courtyard of the mosque.

It was a photo similar to this, that made me decide on Aga Khan as a location to take some photos. I am very happy with the reflections and photos overall.

I was fortunate enough to meet a new friend at a recent event. He was kind enough to invite myself along with a few of my friends to a Moon event that is going on at Aga Khan Museum. He gave us a tour which included this VIP room which is not open to the general public. How lucky we were to have the opportunity to see this incredible view, just in time for the setting sun to complete it.

Chaka Khan is definitely the most famous musician I have posted about this week but I hope that some of you have been able to learn about some new ones, too. Some of the musicians I posted about have been fearless in their lives and all are talented. Chaka Khan played her heart out when she was one of the features of Pitchfork Music Festival a couple of years ago. I think she even had the trees dancing! Much love to her an anyone alive who can make you dance and sing your heart out like the night will ever end and like you’re young again and free of all your worries and sorrows. If you can find anything or anyone that can do that for you for even one evening, hold on to her/him/them/it forever.

Monstrosities don't come much more monsterous than this 40 metre high stainless steel monument to Chenggis Khan about 50 Km from Ulaanbaatar. Our guide proudly said that ten years ago there was nothing here. I though there still is nothing here, but I bit my tongue.

The stair leading up to the monument were broken and dangerous, I walked up the grassy slope to the right. Inside the monument the ground floor is a cavernous echo chamber where a band was performing music so deafening I had to go outside until they stopped.

It's possible to go up to stand on a platform on top of the horse's head. The stairway was norrow and had no hand rail. Going up was difficult, coming down was dangerous because so many people were pushing and shoving to get out of the claustrophobic stairs.

This was a wasted day when there was so much more to see in this amazing country. On the upside, we ate a lovely lunch in the restaurant.

A highlight of the souq area is the Khan Al Franj (Inn of the Foreigners), the most beautiful and best preserved of all the limestone khans built by Fakhreddine (Fakhr Ad Din Al Maan II) in the 17th century.

Left the temple complex of Preah Khan through its western gate. (Khmer temples normally face east towards the rising sun, the symbol of life. However, Angkor Wat faces west, so it is sometimes believed to be a temple of the dead or the king's mausoleum). At some temples, tourists have a choice whether to enter/exit through the eastern or western gates. The man on the right gives some scale to the size of the doorways.
