When I came outside I was first confused because I saw the sun shining very brightly in front of me, the position where it is usually at noon. However this was at 5:30pm.
After standing for a while in awe, I realized that he setting sun (behind me) was hitting the building at the end of the street (in front), and diffused in a brilliant white - almost like an artificial flash light, causing interesting hard edged double shadows and a white cast over everything. It was one of the most remarkable natural lighting situations i've ever seen.
Notice the double shadows clearly visible on the four standing in the middle of the intersection.

A condo rehab in the old wholesale meat market district (Fulton Market) Chicago. There are still meat wholesalers around there and it still smells nasty.

This is slide film. Interesting to compare to the shot that came from the negative 800z film right after this one in the photostream.

Millennium Park Chicago The much photographed Bean, officially known as Cloudgate is scheduled to officially "re-open" tomorrow. I'm not sure what that means except that hopefully they are finished working on it. It's been there for 2 years and seems as though it is always being worked on and scaffolding often spoils the picture.
I recently got an email from the artist's lawyers demanding that I stop selling t-shirts with a picture of this sculpture on it. He "retains" the copyright.

Super Ricohflex on Kodak 400vc slightly underexposed, desaturated. Contrast bump in lightroom. Vignettes were naturally present but I enhanced them.
Looks like a charcoal drawing doesn't it.
fAbout a block north of where it has stood for the past 126 years, the Harriet F. Rees mansion now sits at Praairie Avenue & Cullerton, from where it will be backed into the spot that has been prepared for it in the 2000 block of South Prairie Avenue.

I like the balance of white seagulls on dark river against the dark people on the light street
Explored at #99; replaced with uncropped version. Something about artificial square cropping has recently started to bother me.
Visible throughout the downtown area, each horse is dedicated to the memory of a specific Chicago Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty. In December of 2014, the horses will be auctioned off and the net proceeds will go to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, and its mission to assist the families of Chicago Police Officers who have been killed or catastrophically injured in the line of duty.
This particular horse honors Sgt. Otha M. LeMons, Star #1048, assigned to the 5th Police District.
On August 5, 1974, Sergeant LeMons conducted a premise check at the Pepsi Lounge at 62 East 103rd Street, which had recently been robbed. Once inside, three gunmen entered the tavern, announced a robbery, and shot Sgt. LeMons six times, killing him.
The offenders were subsequently identified and apprehended. Sgt. LeMons was buried at St. Mary Cemetery. He was a 24 year veteran of the Department and left behind a wife, one daughter, and two grandchildren.

My mom works at 111 South Wacker in Chicago. One day, I went to go visit her at work to get coffee and take care of some family business. While I waited for her in her building lobby, I snapped some photos. I've done this before (flickr.com/photos/senoranderson/506533607/ flickr.com/photos/senoranderson/511627811/, but this time a security guard came up to me and asked me to stop. I could understand being asked to stop if I was being creepy and taking photos of people, but I wasn't. Why can't I take photos in a building's lobby?
