MGM Lion Habitat in Las Vegas.

The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino is absolutely gigantic. They have a lion habitat there that is absolutely fantastic. I did not get any still photos of the lion habitat, but I did shoot some video. I recently started to look over some of my Las Vegas vacation shots and video and decided that to upload them to Flickr. Las Vegas is a great place to go for a vacation. But go to the shows and the exhibits and take the tours to places like the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. Be careful not to gamble to much. The casinos usually come out way ahead at the gambling tables.

At first it looks like a zoo shot, however this is the famous mighty lion of the MGM Grand casino in Las Vegas!

Lion Habitat

Chloe had a fantastic time during her 1st trip to the Philadelphia Zoo.

The lions totally fascinated her..

lol....it seems that when Chloe is excited she sticks out her tongue. I suddenly realized that while looking at a bunch of pics I've taken of her recently.

To honor the lion and help safeguard its preservation for future generations, MGM Grand Hotel and Casino has created a one-of-a-kind Lion Habitat as a showcase for public education and appreciation for this majestic creature of nature. The lion has been a part of the MGM heritage for many years, beginning with the legendary Leo, whose roars have welcomed generations of moviegoers to epics of the silver screen.

The lions live in custom accommodations on an 8.5-acre ranch 12 miles from the MGM Grand. They are owned and cared for by noted feline expert Keith Evans, who has been training exotic animals for more than 30 years.

I love the "Lion Habitat" there...I was there every other day to see the different lions they brought in. They would always have 2 in there. As the wrangler described...they would bring 2 lions at a time to be there for 6 hours at a time from a ranch outside Las Vegas about 12 miles away. The habitat is open from 10am-10pm. And I love how you can be sooo close to them...it's you and the lions and in between is a 2 inch thick glass. It's a 9 million dollar temperature & light controlled...sound proof...scent proof glass structure. Which is good cause thousands of people are looking at the lions everyday as they walk by the casino floors and the lions won't get stressed or anything. Wow...I remembered alot and I was a lil buzzed. I think it's also cause I heard the same guy give the same speech maybe 4 times throughout all the days I passed by there. I wanted to see white lions sooo bad but I only got to see this type which is a 2 year old male(there were 2) and of the same type...two 2 months old baby tigers. They were all pretty big...it was mind blowing. This lion ways about 500 pounds and when they are fully grown are about 800 pounds. In captivity they live to be up to 25 years old and that's way longer than in the wild.

This is the best shot I got. I had the most perfect photo opportunity the last day in Vegas when the lion came up right up to me against the glass with this giant plastic ball it was playing with...I WAS SO PISSED...cause my camera didn't work..I was soooo disappointed...but oh well...maybe next time.

I guess...I can work for the Discovery Channel now...eh? lol.

Once again on Thursday, June 7, 2007, we lounged around the timeshare, enjoying the sun on the patio. Then Carl and I took a cab to MGM and ate lunch at Wolfgang Puck's. We enjoyed The Lion Habitat for free. We crossed the strip (overhead bridge) to the Tropicana and viewed the "Bodies" Exhibit. We quickly returned to the resort by cab and changed clothes. Carl and I took a cab to the Mirage and attended the show, "Love - The Beatles" by Cirque du Soleil . Afterwards we took a tram next door to TI (Treasure Island) where we had a quick supper and enjoyed an interesting show at Kahunaville and did some late night shopping knowing that we would be leaving in the morning. See the set of photos to be viewed as a slideshow. See a video too.
