Sunflowers are from my wife's rock garden and the butterflies are mine :) We have always admired the large sunflowers and we are hoping to get some seeds for eating if butterflies don't eat them all :) This is our first attempt to grow some. Picture taken in our backyard. I don't do too many flower and insect macros but just had to take one for my wife :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUe7dMi2uLA&list=RDhG_wA8RxKO...

A picture I took of the sunflower fields east of Denver Colorado on the night of one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen.
There are several very small Sunflowers this year, this one is nearly ready to bloom.

... plus one visitor ... located on the left hand corner of the top Sunflower's face.
Not so long ago, the garden in which these Sunflowers are growing, was bare earth. This was the result of clearing work, after the house was sold. Prior to that, the corner block and house were an eyesore. Now it is a joy to view every time I walk or drive past. Well done to the new occupants, as the house had been renovated to perfection also.
I took this photograph of a pretty sunflower i grew myself in Largo, Florida.

This lovely sunflower grew from a bird seed in our garden. :-)
I edited this iPhone image in Topaz Studio, using the Game Day 1 pre-set, to boost the colours a little.
I've never appreciated the beautiful swirly centre of a sunflower before - it's precision engineering :-)

I had hoped for some nice sunshine today so that I could go back to the field alongside the M6 motorway and gets some nice shots of the sunflowers I spotted there. It was the afternoon before the rain stopped but we were left with a strong wind. Undeterred I went to the field and found most of the flowers either looking down at their feet or blown over at an angle by the wind. They looked a slightly untidy, mess. And the sun chose to hide between dark, gathering clouds. All I could do was shoot up into the flowers, against the light of the sky. But I do like the spread of the petals in this shot... even if I say so myself!
I'm not quite sure why the farmer chose to sow a belt 10 m deep with sunflowers around the outside of a crop of barley, but it certainly makes the countryside look prettier. And that boring stretch of the M6
