The emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) is the tallest and heaviest of all living penguin species and is endemic to Antarctica. The male and female are similar in plumage and size, reaching 122 cm in height and weighing from 22 to 45 kg. Feathers of the head and back are black and sharply delineated from the white belly, pale-yellow breast and bright-yellow ear patches. Like all penguins it is flightless, with a streamlined body, and wings stiffened and flattened into flippers for a marine habitat. Its diet consists primarily of fish, but also includes crustaceans, such as krill, and cephalopods, such as squid. While hunting, the species can remain submerged around 20 minutes, diving to a depth of 535 m. It has several adaptations to facilitate this, including an unusually structured haemoglobin to allow it to function at low oxygen levels, solid bones to reduce barotrauma, and the ability to reduce its metabolism and shut down non-essential organ functions. The only penguin species that breeds during the Antarctic winter, emperor penguins trek 50–120 km over the ice to breeding colonies which can contain up to several thousand individuals. 1921
At 107 feet tall, the Grays Harbor Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Washington State.
Considered by its architect, Carl Leick, to be his masterpiece, the Grays Harbor Lighthouse is the pride of Westport, Washington
This enlarges nicely IMHO.

A 4 photos panorama of two of Belgium's tallest constructions:
- In the middle, 4.2 km away (2.6 miles), the South Tower ("Tour du Midi" in French, "Zuidentoren" in Dutch, next to Brussels' South Station) is the tallest building in Belgium, peaking at 150 m (492 ft) – and 165 m (541 ft) with its antenna.
Built in 1967, it hosts the Belgian pensions' administration.
- On the right, 15.4 km away (9.6 miles), the 300 m tall (984 ft) Sint-Pieters-Leeuw Tower (West of Brussels) is the tallest freestanding structure in Belgium.
Built in 1996, it is a telecommunications tower hosting antennas for the VRT, the Flemish radio and TV.
You may think it isn't very impressive, so do I: Belgium is quite a bit of a small country with fading ambitions...
Also, 33.3 km away (22.6 miles), just left of the pylon on the left of the South Tower, you can faintly distinguish the water tower of Belle Croix in the village of Horrues (Soignies).
This pano was shot on an exceptionally clear morning from the 34th floor of the Brusilia Residence in Schaerbeek, using a Nikon D7100 and a 600 mm f/4 lens.

Taken this morning behind the old Marden school. You can see the smoke and lights of nearby Guelph in the background. Very warm sky with a touch of fog. I was so busy looking at the big full moon in the west, I almost missed the sunrise in the east.

"Tibetans look at a person who holds himself above others, believing he is better than others and knows more, and they say that person is like someone sitting on a mountain top: it is cold there, it is hard, and nothing will grow. But if the person puts himself in a lower position, then that person is like a fertile field." — Allan Wallace
The Burj Khalifa, known as the Burj Dubai before its inauguration, is a megatall skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the tallest structure in the world, standing at 829.8 m (2,722 ft).
The Y-shaped plan is designed for residential and hotel usage. A buttressed core structural system is used to support the height of the building, and the cladding system is designed to withstand Dubai's summer temperatures. It contains a total of 57 elevators and 8 escalators.

- 16 floors (I think), build by Ceausescu, in Mamaia, same that build the Palace of the Parliament. After the Pentagon, the Romanian parliament building is the second largest building in the world.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse is one of the most picturesque lighthouses on the Pacific coast. The tower stands on a rocky promontory and has long been a landmark for ships approaching San Francisco Bay from the south. This headland, and hence the lighthouse, took its name from the ship Carrier Pigeon that wrecked here in 1853. During our visit to the coast, we decided to stop by Pescadero and visit the Pigeon Point lighthouse. The 115-foot Pigeon Point Lighthouse, one of the tallest lighthouses in America, has been guiding mariners since 1872.
Peeking thru the trees at Mt. Denali shortly after dawn.
"There is a distinction between measuring "highest" and "tallest." The highest mountain is determined by measuring a mountain's highest point above sea level. The tallest mountain is measured from base to summit. Using that measurement, Denali is taller than Mount Everest. Denali rises about 18,000 feet (5,500 meters) from its base, which is a greater vertical rise than Everest’s 12,000-foot rise (3,700 meters) from its base at 17,000 feet (5,200 meters)." Wikipedia

Often referred to as the Golden God Temple. At 375 feet (114 m) in height, the Shwemadaw holds the record for the tallest pagoda in the country taller even than the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon (at 98 metres (322 ft)). Shwemadaw, along with the Shwedagon and Kyaiktiyo, are famous Mon pagodas.
Besides the water tower, this abandoned feed mill is the tallest structure in Seaton, IL.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden was full of red plums, white plums, early blooming cherry blossoms and narcissus, and was rich in color.
Reputed to be the tallest grain elevator in the world, Harvest States Cooperative CHS-1 is serviced by a pair of Lake Superior Terminal & Transfer EMD switchers. It always seemed to me that this wasn’t a place for a young mother to take a toddler for a walk.
This row of (four, actually) old houses on Markyate's High Street is squeezed between the two roads that lead up into the Chiltern hills (to the right of the photo). Road, and hence traffic, are the key words here. On the farthest end of the row Pickford's transport company had their office (from the 18th century), then we have what was the Sebright Arms, a pub cum hotel taking care of the travellers (up to the 1960s), then there is another building that very likely also was involved in the coach business, and then, at the corner closest to the viewer, is what was Spary's wheelwright shop (up to the 1940s). The location is still central: on the right, next to the bus stop sign, you see that of of the post office. You would find it inside the only food store in the village.
