In these recent weeks that have at times felt hollowed out by sadness, I've at last found comfort in the word surrender, in its gentle entreaty to let go and make peace with "what is". When anyone's words or behaviors (and most especially our own) make us feel anything less than how much we matter and how worthy we are, it's like holding a cork underwater that naturally wants to rise. It's all resistance. If we can find a way to gently surrender its weight and gravity, love rushes in.
Tennyson said that "Love is the only gold". I believe that If we can find a way to give it to ourselves unreservedly, and then radiate it outward unconditionally, it becomes its own richness and reward. Or if 19th century poets aren't your jam, one of the greatest Radiohead songs of all time ends with the line: "Immerse your soul in love." So that's the vista that fills my view, the one that I hope I won't lose sight of again. Thank you all for being so profoundly gracious, warm, and kindhearted. You are loved sincerely. ♥

The Rainbow Vista lies under wispy clouds on this beautiful late afternoon in The Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. The Vista parking lot is on the right side of the photo and the heart of the vista in the center. 15 photos were used in the merge for this pan.

I wonder how many photos I took over times. Year after year I travel around seeing all sorts of vistas and then forgetting them. I revisited them again now going through my archive. I wander how many of those places still are as they are...

The crown jewel of the Columbia River Gorge just celebrated it's centennial on May the 5th as a resting place for intrepid travelers. It was placed on crown point as “an observatory from which the view both up and down the Columbia could be viewed in silent communion with the infinite.” Such an observatory would also be a fitting memorial to “the trials and hardships of those who had come into the Oregon country.” And it could “serve as a comfort station for the tourist and the travelers of America’s greatest highway.”
