One of our favourite walks on the island Waiheke, located in the Hauraki Gulf in Auckland, is the Matiatia Walkway from the ferry terminal to Oneroa Beach. I adore this lonely tree on the edge of a rock face and have on several previous occasions attempted to make an interesting image. This is not perfect either as shot in the middle of the day so the light is a bit flat however I like the composition and the use of negative space. I'll keep trying! Keep shooting.

Waiheke is an island just off of Auckland. It has many wine estates.

Waiheke is a haven of beautiful vineyards, olive groves and beaches, all just a 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. In landscape, lifestyle and experience, Waiheke is a world away. ... Catch one of the regular ferries that run to Waiheke from downtown Auckland.

Visited on my first full day in Auckland. The most perfect spot. So idyllic. Well worth visiting if anyone is visiting Auckland.

Waiheke Island, New Zealand

I did a little hike through the random countryside here on Waiheke yesterday. There are all these awesome trees just kinda hanging out on hilltops. They're also great places for little naps!

Overlooking Port Kennedy is Kennedy Point Vineyard producing fine wine and virgin olive oil. Between ferries the wharf is a popular fishing spot and is often used by visiting pleasure craft.

Here's another quad shot. Again, I loved the shot from the ground-based angle. But when I got the quad up in the air, it was a totally different scene. At least carrying around the Mavic is now easier than carrying around the Phantom. I really dig this little device!

What a pretty island! I've heard about how pretty it is but really had no idea it was so “varied.” There are so many of these peninsulas and fingers out into the ocean… there must be over a hundred of them, and they all seem to have perfect little houses scattered here and there and everywhere.

Thanks again to my friend Deanie for letting my family stay at her place on Waiheke! It was a great little vacation after Tina's doctor visit in Auckland. Waiheke is less than an hour away by ferry and it's like a perfect little island getaway! There are so many cool beaches and awesome places to visit. If you have an extra few days on your next trip to New Zealand, be sure to come over thisaway!

Cable Bay Vineyards on Waiheke Island. One of the best meals that we had with fantastic wine. If you are ever on Waiheke give them a try. www.cablebayvineyards.co.nz/default.cfm.

i keep thinking i have seen everything beautiful in this tiny country already, and then i go somewhere new and realise i don't think i'll ever stop finding beauty in this place. how lucky.

Waiheke Island is one of the largest islands in the "Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand". The ride with the ferry from the Auckland city harbour to the island lasts about 40 minutes. It's one of the most popular attractions in Auckland and a "must do" whenever you are there.

Waiheke itself is 19.3 km long and between 0.64–9.65 km wide.

It's a nice island with a lot of things to do. The picture was taken on the most western point of the island. In the background you can see the Motutapu Island.
