Linville River (Explored Nov. 5, 2016)

Fall colors on the Linville River from Linville Falls Road along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Scenic Byway and one of just 31 All-American Roads. It mostly runs along the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia, and was built to connect Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Blue Ridge Parkway is not a designated national park but the land on either side of the road is owned and maintained by the National Park Service. Except for 1949 and 2013, the BRP has been the most visited unit of the National Park Service every year since 1946.
