Colorless Mimas

This view of Mimas shows its most prominent feature - a 130 km diameter impact crater named Herschel, almost a third of the moon's diameter!

Image on the left shows a natural color image taken by Cassini's narrow-angle camera. The moon is fairly colorless, only a very subtle reddish band can be discerned. The image on the right is the same image with the saturation greatly enhanced to show minute surface differences. The bluish material to the left of Herschel might be exposed, cleaner ice.

Taken on 1st August, 2005 at a distance of 251 000 km and a phase angle of 45 degrees.
