Electoral Management Course

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) with the support of UNDP/SELP concluded 8-week long Electoral Management Course (EMC) for the officers of ECP.A total of 29 participants (26 Election Officers ,03 Assistant directors) across the country were trained. The facilitators of the EMC were senior trainers of the ECP. The EMC is a certificate-level training course tailored and designed especially for mid-career officers of ECP. The objective of the course was to strengthen the electoral and administrative knowledge and skills to conduct their field work in an effective and efficient manner. The course was commenced from 27th August ,2019 to 18th October ,2019 at newly established Federal Election Academy (FEA)-ECP Secretariat, Islamabad. The ECP and UNDP/SELP have worked together for the EMC to further promote credible and sustainable electoral practices and prepare the ECP officers from across Pakistan to meet emerging challenges of election administration in today’s world. UNDP/SELP has worked in the development of the curriculum and cost sharing of the training expenses in partnership with the ECP. In addition to this, expanding the knowledge base and expertise of the officers, UNDP/SELP has arranged renowned guest speakers/ subject experts to deliver lecture on different topics i.e. Federalism, Electoral politics and constitutional development, Sexual Harassment act, Social Media and Elections and Stress Management etc. The lecture of the Guest Speakers was arranged in each week. The component of guest speakers added a value in the EMC course, the Secretary ECP appreciated the value addition of guest speakers. The first six-weeks of the course covered 23 modules of EMC followed by two-weeks of training on three BRIDGE1 modules comprising Legal Framework, Gender Equality and Elections and Political Financing from 7th to 18th October 2019 that was facilitated by a UNDP International BRIDGE Expert along with existing ECP and UNDP BRIDGE facilitators.
BRIDGE1 stands for Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections. It is a modular professional development program with a particular focus on electoral processes.
