U.S. Presentation Before the Committee Against Torture

On November 12-13, the United States made its periodic presentation to the U.N. Committee Against Torture (CAT), a body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment by States that are party to it. During the course the review, the U.S. delegation underscored that all U.S. personnel are legally prohibited under international and domestic law from engaging in torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment at all times, and in all places.
