HRC Resolution 16/18 and Combatting Religious Intolerance

Ambassador Keith Harper participated in a discussion on the importance of Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18 organized by the Geneva based think tank Universal Rights Group. Resolution 16/18 sets forth a concrete program of action that can “make a real difference on the ground” in promoting religious tolerance,” Harper said. “Today’s headlines make it imperative that the Human Rights Council maintain the consensus.” Opening the event, URG Director Mark Limon urged the diplomats, NGOs and government officials in attendance to make the fight against religious intolerance a key international political priority. Other participants in the Feb 12 discussion included Ambassador Zamir Akram of Pakistan, Ambassador Mehmet Ferden Carikci of Turkey, Mr. Mark Matthews, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom and Oxford University’s Nazila Ghanea.
