“What Works”Best practices and lessons learnt in Promoting and Protecting the Rights of LGBTI Persons
Randy Berry, U.S. Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBT Persons.
The purpose of this event is to focus on “what works” in promoting and protecting the rights of LGBTI persons around the world. Alongside the important conversations about stemming violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity that are happening at the international level, many governments, businesses, and civil society organizations are working together to improve protections for LGBTI persons around the world. This panel discussion will be an opportunity to examine examples of successful national and local programs and strategies for advancing the cause of equality and non-discrimination for all. The panel will also discuss how some of these strategies might help address the various recommendations made in the recent OHCHR report that was released earlier this month.
