Human Rights Council 31st Session
The 31st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council opened February 29th. Addressing the Council on the eve of its second decade, High Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said: “This is an anniversary that calls for more than rhetoric: it cries out for action, and decisive and cooperative leadership in defense of vital principles.” The Council also heard opening statements from new HRC President Ambassador Choi Kyong-lim (Republic of Korea), the President of the UN General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft and Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter. The U.S. is represented at the HRC by Ambassador Keith Harper.
