70th Anniversary of the CARE Package

Originally sent to hungry families in Europe by well-wishers in the US after the Second World War, CARE Packages are today delivered all around the world, wherever they are needed most.

The U.S. Mission is proud to be a co-sponsor of an exhibit which opened today at the EU Delegation offices to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic CARE package.

The multimedia display assembled by CARE International is a walk through humanitarian history. Historical archives show how the humanitarian landscape has shifted in the last 70 years.

Inaugurating the exhibit were Ambassador Peter Sørensen, Head of the EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Pamela Hamamoto, Permanent Representative of the United States of America and Ralph Martens, Chair of the CARE International board and Wolfgang Jamann, CEO of CARE International.

CARE is “a beacon of hope, a rare and precious moment of humanity in the lives of people who so desperately need it," said Ambassador Hamamoto.
