Regional Issues Highlighted at NPT PrepCom
In an April 30 statement to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Preparatory Committee, U.S. Ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament Robert Wood highlighted the real-world proliferation challenges that threaten our collective security. He stressed that the international pressure campaign on North Korea must and will continue until we see complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization; reiterated the U.S. commitment to denying Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon and holding it accountable for its destabilizing activities; and called on Syria to cooperate with the IAEA without delay. Ambassador Wood confirmed that the United States remains committed to efforts to strengthen and uphold the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
