Dina Smeltz talks about polling in the U.S. and Europe

This week the Mission and Webster University welcomed Dina Smeltz, senior fellow on public opinion and foreign policy at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs (www.thechicagocouncil.org/), for talks about polling in the US and Europe in the run-up to the 2016 US election and the Brexit vote. Ms. Smeltz spoke to students, journalists, and staff from international organizations about how technology is changing the way polls work, and how forecasters weight findings to model their predictions. She drew on her decades of experience – not only in the US but also in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian territories – to give a thorough overview of how researchers measure public opinion around the world.
