The U.S. Delegation attends the opening of the 72nd World Health Assembly in Geneva.

 

Alex Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services, is heading a multi-agency U.S. delegation to the 72nd World Health Assembly. Health Officials from around the world are gathered at the United Nations in Geneva to set priorities for the World Health Organization, the U.N. agency whose primary objective is “the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health.”

 

In Geneva, Secretary Azar is participating in multiple bilateral meetings with health ministers and officials from other nations. Additionally, Secretary Azar will attend several high level consultations, with senior World Health Organization officials and health ministers from other donor countries, regarding the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

 

The U.S. Delegation to #WHA72 also includes Dr. Brett Giroir, Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Kevin Moley, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations, Dr. Robert Redfield, Director of the CDC, Garrett Grigsby, Director of HHS’s Office of Global Affairs, and Mark Cassayre, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.
