U.S. Announces Nearly $24 million in Humanitarian Assistance to Yemen

Today in Geneva, the United States announced nearly $24 million in additional humanitarian assistance to the people of Yemen, including critical support for coordination and logistics operations to ensure aid continues to reach the most vulnerable. This brings the total U.S. humanitarian aid to nearly $721 million since October 2017. USAID Assistant Administrator Michael Harvey stated, “For our assistance to save lives, humanitarians and life-saving supplies must be able reach the people and places most in need. Food, fuel and medicine must be allowed access into all areas and be able to flow into and throughout the country freely. All parties must also avoid civilian targets and critical infrastructure -- including especially hospitals, water systems, and markets -- and do everything they can to facilitate the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance.”

More than 24 million people in Yemen – nearly 80 percent of the population – are in need of humanitarian assistance. The United States is one of the largest donors of humanitarian assistance to the Yemen response, and we remain committed to helping the people of Yemen. However, no amount of humanitarian or development assistance will end this conflict. A peaceful resolution to the crisis must be found to put an end to the suffering of millions. We call on our partners and other donors around the world to join us in responding to this urgent crisis amid rapidly growing needs.
