Launch of Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action

In humanitarian situations across the world, children are likely to make up half or more of the population affected by conflicts or disasters. On October 29, 2012, the Child Protection Working Group (CPWG) launched a long-awaited set of interagency Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action developed as common guidelines for the global humanitarian community. U.S. Ambassador Betty E. King and Swiss Ambassador Alexandre Fasel co-hosted the launch of the standards on behalf of the CPWG. Dr. Neil Boothby, Special Coordinator for Children in Adversity for USAID, gave remarks recognizing these standards as a milestone in the protection of children affected by conflict and disaster around the globe. Visit cpwg.net/minimum-standards/ for more information about this initiative and the full text of the standards.
