Ambassador King at the ITU World Summit on the Information Society

Ambassador Betty E. King participated in a panel discussion at the ITU World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum. The theme of the session was “Emerging Trends and Innovation in the ICT Ecosystem.” Ambassador King reminded the audience that “information and knowledge” are key drivers of economic development and growth. She added that “More and more, we understand that technology is a “game changer” in our development and humanitarian efforts worldwide. The world’s current resources are insufficient to address all of the major global development and humanitarian crises that we face. Science and technology are helping us to become more effective and efficient in this work and to stretch the power of limited resources. It is increasing transparency and providing access to information in remote corners of the globe. ICTs have spurred economic growth, a cornerstone of development. They have helped to lower the barrier to entry for the private sector and create a platform for new ideas and new business models.”
