UN Special Representative Brahimi Briefs Media Before Syria Talks

Lakhdar Brahimi, UN Special Representative for Syria, speaks to the UN-based media on the eve of tripartite talks among Russia, the United Nations to prepare for the Geneva conference on Syria, otherwise known as Geneva II. As laid out in the Geneva Communiqué, a transitional government achieved through negotiations is the only way to end the bloodshed in Syria, respond to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and affecting neighboring countries, counter violent extremist groups, address the issue of chemical weapons, and forestall regional instability. The United States is proceeding with preparations for the Geneva II, but it is not going to put a timeline on this.
