Haymaking at Living History Farms, August 2008
On Saturday, August 9, 2008, I went to the Living History Farms in suburban Des Moines, Iowa, for their special event "Haymaking Day" which showed visitors how hay was made and loaded into the barn at the 1900 farm. The process was remarkably similar to how we did it when I was a kid on the farm, only that the hay was baled, and a tractor pulled the rope, rather than a horse. (In fact, driving the tractor to pull the rope was my first "real" farm job, and my first experience driving.)
