Birgitta af Klercker was born on 1 April 1942 in Sweden. She is the daughter of Fredrik af Klercker and Birgitta Zätterström.
She first married Robin Alexander Wolfgang Udo Eugen Wilhelm Gottfried Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (quite a mouthful), son of Gustav Albrecht 5th Fürst zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Margareta Fouché d'Otrante, on 29 January 1970 at New York City, New York, U.S.A..
She and Robin Alexander Wolfgang Udo Eugen Wilhelm Gottfried Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg were divorced on 4 October 1979.
She married, secondly, Oliver Fouret on 22 March 1980. Her married name became Fouret.
Birgitta was a top model and long-time fashion muse for photographers such as Irving Penn, Scavullo and Avedon, and a great favorite of Vogue magazine, and its editor, Diana Vreeland.
She was also a well respected interior designer for clients around the world, and owned the famous Parisian antique store ''Haga'' on Rue de Grenelle.
Birgitta Sayn - Wittgenstein Fouret, lost her long and courageous battle with cancer on January 17, 2007 in Paris. She is mourned by her husband Olivier Fouret, her children Sebastian and Natascha SaynWittgenstein, Katarina Fouret, two grandchildren, her family in Sweden, and many friends and loved ones worldwide.
